Somonauk School District #432 will offer free screenings to children ages 3-5 that reside within Somonauk School District. Your child changes rapidly throughout the years and an annual check-up of his/her educational progress is strongly recommended. This service is one way of finding preschoolers who may need extra help before the start of kindergarten. The next scheduled screening date is February 7th, 2020. Screenings are scheduled between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. and are held at James R Wood Elementary. If you are interested in having your child screened please call 815-498-2315 ext. 1224 to schedule a screening.

For 21 years and counting, under the choreography of Bill Morris, JRW students spend the last two weeks prior to winter break on skates! Kindergarten through 4th grade skate during PE class, learning how to literally stand, stop, and SKATE! They get to utilize some carpet in the gym to build their confidence, some may use a "skate mate" (build by Mr. Jr) and gradually move to roller magic! Next week, they get to skate to music! Sometimes it may look a tad like roller derby, but the excitement and encouragement of the students with one another, will warm your heart and make you smile!

Congratulations to JRW and SHS for receiving commendable ratings on the Illinois School Report Card for the 2018-2019 school year! Some indicators that the state utilized to determine rating include assessment scores, attendance, and climate surveys. But wait, there is more exciting news! A huge BOBCAT PRIDE CONGRATULATIONS to Somonauk Middle School! They have received an EXEMPLARY rating, which means that they are in the top 10 percent of schools in the entire state of Illinois! Their numbers on assessment scores, student growth, attendance, and climate far exceed the state average. Way to go SMS!
