October School Board #432 Meeting
* Mr Benson presented the school improvement plan for SHS
*Board approved to proceed with the Somonauk / Leland feasibility study
*Board approved purchase of new van

When you approach any of our Somonauk schools as a visitor, you may notice that the windows and doors have images of Bobcats or paws prints on them. While they are very appealing to the eye, they serve as a visual barrier to protect our students and staff. These window guards are funded through a Safe Schools Grant and are strategically placed to avoid direct sight into our buildings where students and staff are present.

Ms. Brooke Harner is sharing her expertise in the math department between the middle school and the high school. Brooke graduated from Kaneland High School and NIU. She enjoys teaching in a smaller school district, so she can get to know her students and their families better. If she were not teaching math in Somonauk, she would love to be a chef. Ms. Harner relaxes on vacation in North Carolina with her family.

Ms. Cassie LeCuyer is caring for our Bobcats as our school nurse. She graduated from Plano High School, Waubonsee, and Western Governors University. She loves the Chicago Cubs and going on hikes. Cassie loves to vacation on a beach under the warm sun. Better yet, she loves Somonauk staff and students and enjoys giving the students a safe place to learn. Welcome to the Bobcat family!

To cap off National Bully Prevention week, Ms. Ozarka along with her leadership group hosted ‘mix it up at lunch day!’ Each student was given a new table to sit at in order to help meet new friends, learn something new about a classmate and spread kindness around our school. They played games and enjoyed a movie.
Even though the week is over, SMS will continue our quest for kindness and being bully free!

What's for dinner?!?! SUBWAY! On October 22nd, please support JRW PTO!

Nothing quite like Bobcat soccer under the lights! #bobcats432

Sue Gerardot joins #432 as one of our nurses. She graduated from Naperville Central, Lewis University, and University of Illinois. Sue is a Chicago sports fan, da Bears and the Cubs, although dreams of relaxing in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Mrs Gerardot loves working with students and making a difference in their lives. If she wasn't working as a school nurse, she would love to be in the operating room. Welcome to Somonauk, Sue!

Somonauk School District #432 Families,
Today, as individual schools within the district, alongside the Somonauk Police department, we practiced our Run-Hide-Fight protocol with our students. This approach takes the lockdown approach that was used previously, and adds some additional options. Teachers and staff have reviewed and interacted with the Run-Hide-Fight protocol for the past year. This practice drill is required by the School Safety Act.
Each school and every child did an exceptional job in this drill today, but still may have some questions for you tonight. If you have any follow up questions or concerns, please reach out to the building principals.
